Our Story

How it all started...

Granite Baptist Church began in July 1958. Seven people gathered together to start an independent Baptist church in Glen Burnie. In the first four years, we had five different pastors, including the founding pastor, Milton Thatcher. On June 26, 1962, the thirteen members called Pastor Richard Grammar as their first full-time pastor.

In September 1962, we moved into our first building, with attendance averaging over 100 per week. By 1974 we averaged 600 in attendance as we moved into the current auditorium. Pastor Grammar’s ministry built all of the current buildings on tis property.

Where we are headed...

Moving forward, Pastor White is excited to see what God will do in the future of Granite Baptist Church. We are thankful for all that God has done in the past, but we are expecting great things in the future! Pastor White’s vision for GBC includes expanding our outreach to the community, deepening discipleship opportunities for all ages, fostering a spirit of unity and love among our members, and creating more avenues for people to encounter the life- changing power of Jesus Christ.

He has a passion for church planting and would like to see Granite involved in seeing more churches started. As we enter into this new season, we are committed to growing together as a church family and making an even greater impact for the Kingdom of God.
